I had to decided what made me happy....what made me happy was taking my dog to the park after a long stressful day at work. What made me happy was coming home and cooking a fresh meal with my boyfriend at the time. What made me happy was actually sitting down and watching a whole football game (with a DVR to skip commercials) without grading papers or folding laundry. I loved the taste of this new life.
Which brings me to this post and title for this blog. Have shopping trips to the mall for an immediate fix for a bad day been replaced by trips to Lowes for a paint brush for trim because I see immediate gratification and improvement in the house? Will I be in love with my new washer and dryer forever because it dings and sings me songs when it is ready to be folded? Will I always be excited to sit on sticky bleachers to cheer on my husband's softball team on a hot summer day because it gives me a break from my job?
My biggest question right now is, do I have the patience for my garden I poured two days into? Every day I walk out the my garden, water the plants, look for new seedlings, and jump up and down when I see sprouts of lettuce. I sing little songs, (yes I always sing about things and to things) and tell my dog how excited I am. But being patient is hard. We will see if I have a green thumb. It takes a little bit of love, and little bit tenderness, and a whole lot of patience. While I wait, I will take up my new favorite hobby while being still. Thank you New Zealand!
